Back in October last year I ordered a Hauck Sit'n Relax baby high chair from BHS Direct. At the time, my wife was in her 23rd week of pregnancy. BHS was the cheapest and, unlike other retailers, it said the product was in stock.
Four months on, it has still not arrived. BHS Direct's standard reply is that the order is being dispatched by Hauck and therefore it can't help.
When I contacted Hauck I was told that they could not tell me anything as BHS was its customer, not myself. BHS still shows this product as being in stock. This is misleading and I have told BHS Direct customer services at least twice that its website displays this information, but it hasn't been changed. Tesco, for example, tells people that it is out of stock and Argos states it is available within 14 days.
BHS Direct has had my £99 for 124 days. We have had the baby for several weeks and had to buy an alternative bouncer (one of the features of the highchair). AH, Oldham
This has been a bit of a fiasco, one that sadly continued even after we got the press office of Arcadia (the parent group of BHS) involved. Only after a frank exchange, did it finally deliver your highchair, although it has also added a baby gym to say sorry. No explaination was offered.
A look at the BHS Direct website shows it sells thousands of products – not just its standard BHS range, suggesting it is one of the growing number of "re-selling" websites that use other firms to deliver its products.
A look at the Trust Pilot website suggests your experience is not uncommon, although the firm is responding to those posting negative experiences.
Re-selling websites tend to be problematic, as they rely on others to fulfil the order.
