Britain's new cafe culture has prompted rising sales of coffee makers, figures from market analysts Mintel showed.

Sales of home coffee machines nearly doubled to 1.2m between 2001 and 2006, with shoppers spending around £50m last year on filter coffee machines, espresso and cappuccino makers and other types of coffee machine.
