Why can’t we have human rights and economic growth? – podcast

William Easterly on how he changed his mind on human rights and development

This month's podcast questions whether economic development and human rights can be prioritised at the same time.

Hugh Muir spoke to William Easterly about his latest book, The Tyranny of Experts: Economists, Dictators, and the Forgotten Rights of the Poor, in which former World Bank researcher turned economics professor argues that the the quest for economic growth has led to the neglect of poor people's rights.

Also joining us this month is Jayati Ghosh, professor of economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, and Jessica Evans, a senior researcher for international financial institutions at Human Rights Watch.
