Private rents in the UK have soared to record levels, while a shortage of housing in cities means many renters are scrambling to find somewhere to live.

It has become commonplace for prospective tenants to be advised to offer rent above asking price, while some outbid others by paying six to 12 months’ rent upfront. Some are unable to find secure housing, being forced to live in precarious housing situations, including illegal sublets.

Amid issues including housing insecurity, rising rents, poor conditions including damp and disrepair, we would like to speak to renters in the UK about their housing situation. What are your current circumstances like, and how are they affecting you?
