Why a London office costs a fortune

A short film from the Economist sets out why building offices in the capital is so extra-expensive and why that doesn’t seem to put people off

This bite-size post exists to share with you a recent short film from the Economist I found while rooting around on YouTube. It told me some things I hadn’t thought of and some more I didn’t know. It also crisply underlines, should that be required, how ferociously powerful the draw of Central London is for global wealth.

So that explains the Cheesegrater. The film’s YouTube comment thread is enlightening in its own way for the bilious remarks offered about the capital in general. Such as: “Paris is laid out beautifully with tree-lined boulevards. London has alleys that two cars can barely pass and it’s laid out like spaghetti thrown across the ground”. True. And a good thing too.
