WPP sweeps east

Sir Martin Sorrell has continued WPP's Asian expansion with the acquisition of four new agencies in the region.

The advertising and marketing services group has acquired two businesses in South Korea and one each in India and China.

In India, WPP has acquired a majority stake in the Bangalore-based brand identity and design agency Ray & Keshavan Design Associates.

In China, WPP's Ogilvy & Mather ad network has acquired a 70% stake in digital agency Beijing Century Harmony Advertising. The five-year-old company is based in Beijing with a branch in Shanghai and employs 93 people.

And in South Korea, WPP's agency Wunderman has acquired Seoul-based marketing services companies SRP and ComHaus Korea.

In its results for the first half of this year, the Asia-Pacific region showed the largest growth globally for WPP, at 9.4%, compared with 4.5% in North America and continental Europe and just 1.2% in the UK.
